Littlest Things

1:38 PM

"Sometimes I wish we could just pretend, even for a one weekend."

Jane couldn't asked more when she looked Joseph being so completely change to her. Jane just looking at Joe who happily talking with her friend Sophie at the corner of the class. Everybody knows how close Jane was with Joseph. They have being friends since they're 4, and when Joseph being like this, she couldn't ask for more, but an answer.

Ever since then, Jane went to collage alone without Joseph followed behind. Before Joseph being a new Joseph, she will wait for him at the garden and they will walk to the bus stops together, rode the same bus that straight away to the collage.

If Jane sent him a message through Whats app, asking him to go out on a movie night together like they used to back in high school days, he wouldn't reply. If he wants to, he will. But if he doesn't want to, he just read it.

After collecting all courage from all over the people she trusted, she sent a message to Joseph. She wrote,

"Hey Joe. Can I ask you something?"

Amazingly, Joseph was on the line but he just read it for a moment, then replied 15 minutes later.

"What?"

That one word makes Jane's palms went wet and cold. She carefully type one by one.

"Why do we became strangers?"

Joseph replied,

"People change because of reasons. You figure it out why,"

Jane already bawling alone while typing,

"What did it gone wrong between us?"

"You figure it out by yourself."

"Can we just pretend to be friends like usual?"

"For what?"

"So this is the end huh?"

"Its seems. I don't wanna stick with just the same person to create the same memories like forever. We're getting older, Jannie"

"See, you still call me with my fav name, Joe"

"It doesn't make any difference tho."

"So you still gonna be the new Joseph?"

"I'm still the same. Somehow other people makes us blind to see ourselves that change in this game."

"You're being too cruel Joe."

"Sometimes we need to teach ourselves, don't ever give mercy even on littlest thing. Just for the sake of ourselves."

Jane didn't reply. all the words she just read makes her bawling more on her bed. Cannot figure it out why, she just decided to let the conversation hanging at it is. No words could describes the hurt she felt.

Then, few minutes later a message came in,

"Hey. I don't intend to be that cruel by the way. Hope you'll find a good friend, better than me. We just stay like this, seems like this is a good way. Gotta go, my girl is waiting."

Fuck. That was the harshest she would ever said. She threw the phone, crying over and over again. Its like her world is over when she lost a friend.

But she forgot she has more friend to lift her spirit up.

Mom heard her shouts and she quickly climbed up to see what's wrong with her daughter. Mom saw Jane curling on her bed, crying her heart out without  thinking the neighbors will hear.

"Hey," Mom hissed. "Don't shout!"

Jane just don't give a care on that. She cried, cried and cried.

"I don't know what wrong between you and Joe but if he wants to go, let him go. People deserved someone who they deserve."

"You don't understand mom," Jane responded while bawling.

"Behind every separation and arguments, there will be something good might happen to you."

"But Mom I don't know what I did."

"Let him go first, and you'll know why this things happen."

Mom hugged Jane without words, until Jane fall asleep on her lap.

Nothing can beat more than a mom's warm hug when you're at your lowest, right?

THEEND.
